When a Walk Around the Block Isn't Enough

Dogs are built to run, sniff, explore, and socialize. Our off-leash pack hikes run 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on weather and trail conditions — because a good hike ends when the dogs are satisfied, not when a timer goes off. Fresh air, varied terrain, genuine exercise, and a social circle they'll look forward to every week.

🐾
A happy dog is a tired dog

Zoomies, sniff breaks, splashing through puddles, chasing squirrels (don't worry, they never catch them) — 90 minutes of this and they'll nap like champions.

🐶
Their new best friend is out there

Pack hikes create real bonds. Tucker and Olive, Bella and June (just to name a few) — some of our dogs have become total besties on the trail. Your pup could be next.

🌲
Enrichment in nature

Fresh air, new scents, varied terrain — the kind of stimulation that makes for a calm, happy dog at home.

Carefully vetted pack members

Every dog goes through a meet & greet first. We screen for temperament and compatibility so every hike is safe and fun for all.

Why 90 minutes to 2 hours? Because we read the dogs, not the clock. On a crisp morning when the pack is fired up, we go the full two hours. On a hot day or a tough trail, we wrap up when everyone's happy and ready for home. Either way, your dog gets exactly what they need.

Hi, I'm Stefanie

I'm a Bend native who spent the majority of my life in Central Oregon, where I developed a deep love for adventure and the outdoors. After five years in Portland working in HR, I came home to start a business I truly love — one built on over 10 years of experience working with animals.

In 2021, Alpine Tails Co was born. Every day, I get to do exactly what I set out to do: explore Central Oregon's trails and give each dog an Alpine Tails journey they'll be sure to rate 5 barks.

What Dog Parents Are Saying

Don't take our word for it.

★★★★★
"Thanks for taking great care of my sweet Madison. You are so consistent, reliable, and the dogs love you. As a fully blind dog, she has become happier, more fit and athletic — she now jumps into my truck on her own. She has amazing confidence now, running on trails using her nose and paws to find her way. That's pretty amazing given she can't see even a shadow."

★★★★★
"Everyone — most importantly Finn and Elsa — loved you. We have worked with many dog services across the US and you are one of the best. Thank you."

"Stefanie is kind, consistent, trustworthy and AWESOME. My dog Luna races out the door when Stefanie arrives and comes home ready for a nap. Stefanie is such a great support. I am so grateful."

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know before your pup joins the pack.

Your dog needs to have basic commands and reliable recall — they don't need to be perfect, but they do need to be able to respond to their name off-leash. Every dog goes through a meet & greet first so we can assess fit. Dogs who aren't quite ready yet may benefit from some training first, and we're happy to point you in the right direction. All dogs must also be up to date on vaccines: Rabies, Lepto, DHPP, and Bordetella.
We hike on the trail systems around Central Oregon. Routes vary by season and conditions. We always use dog-friendly, off-leash-permitted areas and avoid trails where dogs must be leashed.
For the safety of the dogs and myself, all pack hike dogs must have solid off-leash training and be comfortable around other dogs before joining the group. If your dog isn't quite there yet, that's okay — work on off-leash recall on your own first, then reach out! We'll start with a meet & greet, and from there I'll take them out on a private walk alongside one other dog to assess how they do before joining the full pack.
Pack hikes are best suited for dogs who have had their full vaccinations and some basic training. Younger puppies may not yet have the physical stamina or social readiness for a 90-minute to 2-hour off-leash hike with a group. Reach out and we can talk through what's right for your pup's age and development.
We hike in most weather — dogs don't mind a drizzle, and honestly neither do we! We cancel only in extreme conditions (thunderstorms, dangerous ice, extreme heat). If we cancel a hike, you won't be charged. We'll always notify you as early as possible if conditions change.
Yes — Alpine Tails Co is fully licensed, bonded, and insured. We're also Pet First Aid certified. Your dog's safety is our top priority, and we take every precaution to make sure each hike goes smoothly.
